May Update: June 3, 2010

Prayer needs in Lima:

We have recently moved into the time of nieblina in Lima. This is the beginning of winter and the days where we experience a thick fog and humidity. The fog and the difficulty seeing represents the spiritual state of the city. Many people are lost in a spiritual fog.

One great prayer need is for the families of Lima. Most people have not had an experience of growing up in a christian God based loving home. Thus when a person becomes a christian they are in the midst of a very different culture. We need to pray for new believers to be able to demonstrate the love of God through their words and actions to their family members.

We received a phone call from another missionary family about a friend they had made in Lima. We called the number they gave us and we now have also met a new Nikkei lady Rosa, who accepted Christ as a young girl and married a man who became a baptist pastor. Her father encountered a baptist missionary when she was a little girl and all of her family became christians, but most of her extended family: cousins, aunts, uncles etc have not made this decision. Rosa called today and asked us to pray for Nicolas her husband who is having problems with a hernia.

Please pray for the Nikkei. Pray for Lucho, Chio, Diana, and Roberto. Please pray also for ways for us to help Rosa with building relationships and friendships with her family to help share the Gospel with them.

Please pray for the mission in Mira Flores. Tim recently took the bus to Trujillo to meet with one of the members family. In the afternoon we visited family members to share with them about the upcoming bible study that night. Some of the family members were not open to talking about salvation. But many are open. We met Evert's brother in law in this process Thursday afternoon and after hearing the Gospel he made a decision to receive Christ as his personal saviour. That night at the Bible study we had a good group and the family ended the study talking about how they could begin having a study on a regular basis. Please pray for this family.
This past month we also have had another young man start attending our midweek training groups and attending church. His name is Percy. We also had a young man named, Esteban receive Christ at the Saturday university group study. His mother is a member at Carlos Baca's church in Athens.

FAMILY:

Please pray for our health as the weather changes and we adapt to the colder and damp weather. Please pray for the kids as they finish the school year. Please pray for us as we prepare to return to the U.S. for the next school year. We will be returning for Caleb's senior year of high school. There are several mission events upcoming. There are many details to process in storing our things (clothes, furniture, appliances, books, etc.). Lima has a lot of problems with mold and mildew in the winter months.

Please pray for the new believers in Mira Flores as they are growing in a lost city.

Thank you for your prayers.

God's Blessings and Peace,
