March and April Update

April 19, 2009

The Highlights of March:
1) We had a mission team in Lima from Lake Country Christian School. They are from the Dallas Ft Worth area of TX. We did many different activities during the week they were in Lima. The main focus of the trip was using English teaching opportunities as a ministry. We worked in several different schools. One of these was an introduction to a Nikkei school in the northern section of Lima. We also spent a day in a poor area of the city where children had brain damage from inhaling toxic fumes where the factories are working with lead. This is a very sad and difficult situation. There does not appear to be an easy solution to this problem. I am grateful to the flexibility of the team from TX and the love and concern they shared to all the students we encountered in this week.
2) We also had a visitor in from Japan April 1-5. Gary Fujino, who is a missionary in Japan came to South America to help with the research of how best to place the Nikkei people in the new IMB structure. We spent several days interviewing Nikkei people and visiting different parts of the city to meet many of them. The week ended with a trip to Sao Paolo, Brazil to have a preliminary presentation of the results of the research Gary did while in Peru and Brazil. We need to determine the best place to incorporate the Nikkei people into our new organizational structure.

Please continue to pray for our health, our church in MiraFlores, and the Nikkei people and opportunities to reach them.

Back in Lima

Today is March 1st. Carlos Baca and Tim returned from our Trujillo trip Friday morning. We started Thursday with a sharing and prayer time with Marlene. Marlene is Everts cousin, she is the only other christian member of his family.

We had lunch with Everts father, wife, oldest daugher and his sister and her husband. Thursday evening we shared the Gospel with about 30 members of Evert's family. Eight of his family members including his father accepted Christ.

Carlos preached today in our church's new location. We were able to rent the fifth floor of an office building at the intersection of Benavides and Republica de Panama. We had 23 people in the service. For the last two months we have been meeting in the park or at Jesus' house.

Please pray for the new believers in Trujillo and all of the Nikkei and Japanese ESL students in Lima. Please pray for our mission in Mira Flores. We have seen God move in these last few weeks. Many prayers have been answered. Please continue to pray.....

Cuzco Trip

Today is Feb 20. Jerry, Joe, Carlos and I are in The Sacred Valley of the Incas. We are doing pastor training and evangelism events. We have visited many churches and encouraged many believers in the churches. The Lord has worked and many people have prayed to receive Christ. Yesterday we were able to find the parents of two of the members of our church. This was a great opportunity to visit family members from our mission church in Mira Flores.

In most of the various events we used translators from English to Quechua or Spanish to Quechua. A young man named Josue or Joshua that was serving as one of the translators accepted Christ today as well. God moved in many peoples lives.

Please pray for the training sessions, church services, the new believers and those that rededicated their lives to the Lord.

FEB 12, 2008 THE MITCHELL MOMENT

PEOPLE and Ministries to pray for:

After our baptism service we were asked to discontinue meeting at the restaurant. The church is currently meeting at the park.

Joy has a Japanese ladies ESL class that meets in our home on Thursday mornings.

Tim and Joy both teach ESL at a Nikkei business association on Saturday night. We are making many friends there. The President of the organization told us this past weekend that he wanted to discuss with us about teaching more classes. (The names of our most regular students are: Lucho, Chio, Diana, Roberto, Rut, & Ricardo)

Tim teaches ESL on Monday afternoons at a Collegio America. (Guillermo Yoshikawa is the principle)

Nikkei prayer meeting is Tuesday afternoons.

Tim and Joy have Nikkei students we are now tutoring: Hiro, Daisuke, and Roberto. (More of the Nikkei speak Japanese than we first thought. Also, the Buddhist tradition really comes through in their world view as you talk and have more indepth discussions.)

Tim is teaching a Discipleship class Friday mornings for the Prince Mission members.

Our kids started back to school this week.

Christmas in Lima

Christmas in Lima:

There were several wonderful moments: Two Christmas Eve Services (one in English and one in Spanish).

Two of the most happy moments were: 1) A baptism service at our church. We had three people baptized: Lyra, Miriam, and Kevin. 2) Gray surprised us with a Christmas visit to Lima.

Please pray for our church we are looking for a new place to worship!

Dear Family and Friends,

Please pray for Juan Carlos. He is a new believer and he has some difficult family issues. Tim has a new Nikkei ESL student starting next Wednesday.

The end of the year is a great time to reflect on what God is doing in our lives. I realized today that we have been given an unusual opportunity to study the culture of Venezuelans, Peruvians, Costa Ricans, the Wayuu, the Japanese, and the Nikkei. The one thing all these cultures have in common is that God loves each of them. Christmas is a wonderful time of year to think about God's love for us. Today, Joy shared the story with a Japanese lady that told her that this is the first time she had have ever heard the Christmas story.

Please pray for all the people who have not heard and for those that are just now hearing this wonderful news.

It is difficult to be away from home, family, and friends during the holidays. Please know that our thoughts and prayers and hopes for wonderful blessings for the new year are with you.

November 08, Thanksgiving at the Weavers

Please pray for our family and ministry in Lima.

It seems strange to head into the holidays and have summer time weather. Last year it was still pretty chilly at this time so it seemed somewhat like fall in Georgia. This year we are experiencing spring like weather as we head into our summer months of Dec - Mar.

A young man named Juan Carlo accepted Christ at the resaurant this past week. He was in church on Sunday. Please pray for him.

Jacob and Caleb participated in a school mission project where they did physical work and presented the Gospel to the people in the town.

All of our classes are continuing.

This coming Sunday we are having all of the Japanese families that attend Joys ESL bible class to our house for Thanksgiving Dinner.
